Wilbur Wright College will address technical issues with its internet service in the summer of 2024, according to Jeff Jirout, the director of Information Technology. One such improvement will be tearing down walls to install wires to improve the system further.

Many students have expressed concern with the condition and quality of the internet server. The systems have been failing to keep up with tasks, making it difficult to use overall.

Jirout said “There are upgraded access points on campus, concurrent connections, and wider bandwidths. Soon, there will be upgraded network infrastructure and a process of putting everything on schedule. We will meet with the district in a couple of weeks to start the plan. We will be working nights and weekends to upgrade the system.”

Wilbur Wright College’s IT department ensures the internet connectivity issue will be resolved. Jaime Arana-Rochel, Wilbur Wright College’s IT Manager, said, “On the whole, the wireless connection at Wilbur Wright College has improved in terms of coverage and speed since our wireless upgrade at the beginning of the year. As with any campus, some mistakes or oversights happen, which has affected the wireless experience for some of our users, but we actively try to remedy them as they appear.”

Amal Zalloum, Student Government Association secretary, said “I think the internet is much better. It has improved. Before, in a certain area, there was no service. It would let you in, then kick you out.”

The IT department, as well as the District Infrastructure Team are working on responding to issues on campus pertaining to internet connectivity and other issues.

Jirout said “If there are issues with the internet, submit a ticket or come into the office to let the staff know what the problem is and where.”

The IT Department is located on the first floor of the Learning Resources Center, and they are contacted through their phone number (773) 481 - 8775 or their email wrightit@ccc.edu.
