With the Fall semester running full steam, new students entering Wright College begin a new chapter of their academic life. Two first year students share their experience as they transition into full time Wright students. Speaking with Samra Sinanovic, a freshman from Chicago Academy High School and Luna Bender, a homeschooled student who was also dual enrolled at Wright prior to this semester. Both students were asked a few questions to get better insight on how their first few weeks at Wright had been.

Tell me more about yourself! What High School or institution did you come from? What is your intended major or field of interest?
"I'm Samra Sinanovic, I'm 18 years old and I'm a Star Scholarship recipient. I love classic rock and old-school metal. And my favorite band is The Eagles, and my favorite song is Layla by Derek and the Dominos. I recently graduated from Chicago Academy High School, and my intended major is psychology."
How were your first few weeks at Wright? How well have you adjusted to your new schedule?
"My first few weeks at Wright College were honestly pretty amazing. I met many amazing professors who are truly talented in how they teach. I also have met some pretty interesting people. The environment is pretty relaxing, especially in the library, it has to be my favorite out of everything around campus. I read a lot, and the library has so many interesting books I've never even heard of! I adjusted pretty well to my schedule; it did take me a while to figure out how to get to my classes, but after the first 3 weeks, I remembered it quickly."
Are you planning on being part of Campus Life such as clubs or organizations?
"I plan to be involved around campus. I'm actually planning to be a part of the amazing volleyball club. I had a pretty amazing experience the first day that I joined and played with the club. People were so kind and sweet. Also, they supported everyone whether you were good or still practicing. I'm also thinking about getting a job at Wright; the staff at Wright informed me in the most polite and kindest way ever!"
Do you have any advice that you wish prior students gave to you, as a first year?
"The only advice or thing I wish someone had told me prior to starting at Wright was never to register for an 8 a.m. class. It's better to get that extra hour of sleep rather than being a zombie in the morning."

Tell me more about yourself! What High School or institution did you come from? What is your intended major or field of interest?
"My name is Luna Bender! My intended major is secondary education in Mathematics. I was homeschooled and was dual enrolled at Wright during my senior year of high school. The workload was very manageable since the homeschooling aspect was customizable, and the dual enrollment made the full transition to Wright much easier than it would have been otherwise."
How were your first few weeks at Wright? How well have you adjusted to your new schedule?
"The environment was really welcoming at Wright. My first week as a dual enrollment student- attended an orientation by the SGA and the people that helped me were very friendly. And in terms of adjusting to my new schedule, I have adjusted fairly well. The only part of my schedule that I struggle with are classes that start in the morning. The earliest class is 8:30 and it's a half hour commute from my house. I usually wake up at 7 and that leaves me rather tired in the morning and disoriented."
Are you planning on being part of Campus Life such as clubs or organizations?
"Since starting at Wright, I have since joined 2 active clubs (and 1 that was canceled due to low interest) as well as become a senator for the SGA. I am in Alliance and D&D, as well as SGA. Both clubs are very welcoming. In fact, I didn’t even plan to join D&D, I simply happened to be at the right place at the right time where they were meeting and was absorbed into the ongoing campaign. And in terms of workload, neither clubs interfere with my classes or schedules. Both have weekly meetings."
Do you have any advice that you wish prior students gave to you, as a first year?
"I think the advice that I wish prior students would have given me is about signing up for classes at the earliest so you can pick the classes that are best suited for your schedule."
