Getting to Know The Wellness Center

Updated: Oct 27, 2023

Members of a community as diverse as Wilbur Wright College, are likely to have already faced trauma and run the risk of being re-traumatized as they deal with life, according to Wilbur Wright College’s Director of the Wellness Center, Hoyam Tanon. As such, Tanon said she approaches the wellness of the campus with holistic methods that are not a one-size-fits-all for support.

To inform the community of the resources, The Wellness Center, located in S-106, has revamped its website, which has information for students and faculty alike to support well-being and success.

The website’s main page, located at www.ccc.edu/colleges/wright/departments/pages/wellness-center.aspx, features a short video that goes into detail about who they are and how they can help.

On the right side of the homepage, students can view hours, learn more about events, and check out the services they provide, such as Counseling Services, Self-Care Resources, Animated Videos, Housing Resources, Workshops, and Presentations.

Also, according to Tanon, The Wellness Center became a Jed Campus in 2022 to support students at Wright with the goal of increasing the normalization of seeking help.

As one of more than 400 Jed Campuses, Wright taps into a program “designed to help schools evaluate and strengthen their mental health, substance misuse, and suicide prevention programs and systems to ensure … the strongest possible mental health safety nets,” according to the Wellness Center website.

The Wellness Center, located in S-106, is open from 9am to 8pm Mondays and Thursdays; from 9am to 5pm Tuesdays and Wednesdays; and from 9-noon on Fridays. They are also available for Zoom appointments.
