Students Share “Worry” and “Disappointment” Regarding 2024 Election Day

By: Kyle Chmielowski

Wright Times News interviewed Wilbur Wright students to find their thoughts before and after the 2024 November Presidential Election. The feeling throughout the campus seemed similar, expressing concern and frustration.

On the eve of election day, mechanical engineering Student, Julian Delgado says, ”I feel disappointed that it’s such a close race. From my personal perspective, I think it should be pretty clear who should be the next president.”

When asked what outcome he hopes for in this election, Delgado says he hopes a Democrat wins because “the Democratic party is going to give the help and change that the lower classes need.”

In a follow-up email after the election, Delgado stated, “My reaction to the election results are simply disgust, anger, and fear. I am disgusted because, despite all of the efforts to inform people about the bad policies, people still chose him [Donald Trump] as America's leader. I am angry because this shows me how many people choose to be ignorant. And fearful because now I see how many young men are being taken advantage of and how they're being misinformed.”

Student Garry Condrey said it was important to vote because “the rhetoric Donald Trump uses is very dangerous and it’s important that we don’t let him get back in power, especially after January 6th.” Condrey said, “I was just kind of disappointed” when asked how he felt regarding the election results. It's like when your team loses, you just have to rebuild.”

Wright’s students shared worry and concern and agreed talking to someone can be very useful. Wilbur Wright’s Wellness Center (Room S-106) welcomes students to “prioritizing mental and emotional well-being”.

The community can feel overwhelmed with mixed emotions during times like these, but Wilbur Wright is committed to “fostering an environment where all members feel supported, heard, and valued.”
