The Veterans Center’s Toy Drive

By Wilfredo Razo

Wilbur Wright College Veterans Center is hosting a Toy Drive collaborating with, Toys for Tots. The Wright Times Newspaper sat down with Veterans Center’s director, Bryan Soske Jr., to ask about this year’s Veterans Toy Drive.

What is the purpose behind the Veterans Toy Drive?

It gives the joy of Christmas to less fortunate children.

How often does the Veterans Center host a Toy Drive?

We hold the Veterans Toy Drive annually from the beginning of November until mid-December.

Where can students find the Veterans Toy Drive boxes?

Donation boxes are in the Campus Center.

Which company is helping the Veterans Center host the Toy Drive?

The United States Marine Reserve Toys for Tots Drive drop-off point.

Where do the donations for the Toy Drive go?

The toys go to either Fort Sheridan or Cicero, where people can request toys for the children.

How many people donated to the current Toy Drive?

That is unknown because the Veterans Center does not watch people put their donations in the box. However, the Veterans Center’s Krispy Kreme sales uses their profits to buy for donations.

Why does the Veterans Center usually host Toy Drives?

Veterans have always served, and this is one of the opportunities we have to continue their legacy.

What services or programs does the Veterans Center provide?

The Veterans Services Center helps active duty, guardsmen, reservists, and their dependents to utilize the education benefits, that they have earned through their service. We also provide consultations and referrals based on individual needs.

The Veterans Center is hosting this year's toy drive until December 8th. We encourage everyone to drop off a toy to help the less fortunate have a wonderful holiday season.
