Starting the second half of the season at 0-11, the Lady Rams defeated the Harper College Hawks 41-32, on Jan. 25 on Wright’s home court for their first win this season. The Lady Rams are now 1-15, not including two preseason losses.

After defeating the Hawks, Rams head coach Zaporia Smith said, “I would like to recognize freshman shooting guard Angelisse Anzueta. Her athletic hustle on both ends of the courts kept us in the lead of the game.”

In addition to the Rams averaging 10 points per quarter, Anzueta stood out with 15 points, including back-to-back 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. Guard Kalin Stanton totaled 10 points, on two 3-pointers and four free-throws, including the Rams’ last point.

Smith referenced the quote, “Never forget the individuals that paved a way for you to live in this moment,” saying, “This quote means a lot to the women’s program. Recognizing and honoring the ladies that were here before them, has put us in a position to compete today.”

Over the course of the first 17 games this season, many team members have contributed to putting the team in a competitive position.

Shooting guard Angelisse Anzueta has recorded a total of 101 points across her first 17 games. Over the first 16 games of the season, center Lydiannis Boutureira is leading the team with 94 rebounds, including 42 offensive boards.

“It feels good putting points up on the board, but I do want to get more stats on other numbers rather than just points,” Anzueta said, racking up the third most rebounds for the Rams.

After beating Harper, the Lady Rams dropped their next two. A Jan. 28 rematch against the Malcolm X Lady Hawks in Wright’s gym went in the Hawks’ favor 71-14.

After the Hawks put up at least 20 points during each of the first three quarters, the Rams held Malcolm X to six points in the final quarter. The Lady Rams outscored the Hawks 7-6 in that quarter.

On Feb. 4, the Lady Rams fell to the Olive-Harvey Lady Panthers 106-27. Despite trailing 48-14 at halftime, the Lady Rams’ defense was fairly active over the first two quarters. However, Olive-Harvey turned up the heat in the third quarter scoring 34 points while holding the Rams to 7. Wilson stepped up for the Rams, scoring all six of the team’s points in the final quarter.

Before the New Year, the Rams played two games during the winter break. The Rams fell short to Milwaukee Area Tech College 96-41 on Dec.19, as well as Elgin Community College 79-39 on Dec. 21.

Returning after four weeks without a game, the Lady Rams were scheduled to play a rematch against Highland Community College on Jan. 15 however, the game was cancelled. The Lady Rams instead returned on Jan. 18 in their home gym against the Lady Chaps of DuPage College, falling 87-14.

On Feb. 6, the Lady Rams played Kennedy-King College and lost 84-38. The Lady Rams then went up against the Sauk Valley Community College Skyhawks on Feb. 8 on Wright’s home court, though the results of this game were not available by the time this paper went to press.

On Feb. 13, the Lady Rams faced the Lady Bulldogs of Richard J. Daley College, losing 72-46. On Feb. 15 lost 91-33 against Joliet Junior College. Their upcoming game is against Bryant & Stratton College in Milwaukee Wisconsin on Feb. 20.
