Wilbur Wright's women's volleyball team has returned after a hiatus without a head coach. This fall semester, coach Kayla Palmore is leading the new-look Rams through the season.
While a team has been in the works the past couple of years, Wright has had a co-ed Volleyball Club.
The Volleyball Club had many women interested in creating a team, though, securing a head coach was one of the main reasons that wrapped up their new women’s team.
Coach Palmore, brought her 9 years of experience at 360 Sports Academy. She expects her student-athletes to be leaders off the court and to keep their grades up to be eligible to play.
The team seeks to create culture and tradition this season regarding the team to just go for it. Team bonding is arguably one of the most important feats of any solid team.
Co-captain, Valeria Mercado, setter, mentions how everyone is still learning how to play together, but they’re persistent in overcoming this obstacle through each practice.
Building up their team bonds is important to every teammate. When energy is low, fellow co-captain, Perpetual Dike, middle, emphasizes the importance of creating a familial atmosphere with your teammates.
Dike says, “We’re a team at the end of the day…” and encourages the idea that team activities outside of practice are just as important as the practices themselves. “This is our first time playing together so it’s really important to have that chemistry on and off the court,” Dike asserts.
The match you’ll want to look out for, however, is Thursday, September 26th, when the Rams go up against Milwaukee Area Tech for our rematch of the first game of the season.

The last time the Rams went up against the Stormers, the final sets were (25-9, 25-16, 25-13) on August 27th.
Coach Palmore reveals her three goals – win one game, beat Milwaukee Area Tech, make it to the playoffs – they’ve won one game so far, which was against Kennedy-King.
Coach Palmore's current priority is to keep strengthening her team in preparation for the rematch that she is both looking forward to and expecting to be an upcoming challenge.
