The WRIGHT Talent Showcased Onstage

Updated: Aug 31, 2024

By Raymond Alonso

Wednesday, April 24 (at 5-7 pm) was the day where participating students came to the stage & demonstrated their talents to the audience, one by one, or group. The Wright’s Got Talent showcased the many great talents of those students, possibly giving the audience inspiration from these performers. The people in charge of it were from the Wright Music Club, Stage Wright Productions, SGA.  The following talents include mostly solo songs (original & from other songs) & stand-up. Max & Leiana were hosting the talent show. At the pre-show, they said last year’s show was fun, there were lots of talented people. It’s a good collaboration with artists. It jumps into those with or without music. They also stated that this year's talent show will be twisted, & Michael Lesko is the one who manually moves the lights.

Then, it was a group mini band that played a few Taylor Swift songs &, like the 1st one they performed with little to no issues when performing. Next up was stand-up comedy done by Queen Adira, & her commentary on life & the hardships of it made her comedy relatable & hilarious.

Then, Santana (not the band, it’s her alias), played her original songs called Untitled & Dogs, while the lyrics are in dark taste, they make up for it with adequate singing & strumming.

Yahuda came next with his original songs Easy Love & Dreamin’. His lyrics aren’t dark unlike the previous, but both provide audible music & lyrics.

The Last performer to wrap up the show was Peter Piper’s stand-up comedy, even though the topics are heavy & a couple of slurs were used & a few hiccups, the stand up went fairly.

The following interviews are from the staff, performers, & audience of the talent show: Max, the host, said that the only difference was the added stand-up comedy, as well as getting more people involved in the next year’s talent show & for Spring 2025 for future musicals & plays. Leiana, the other host, said that it was a great show, it was always fun to be with her co-host. Part of her wishes to participate, but there’s always next time. She also suggested that they advertise the talent show more, & more people for next year. “This experience makes me wanna join a band. Participate in Stage Wright, keep the arts alive, & support artists.”

Christopher, one of the talent show participants, did one last semester. “When I was first, I was surprised. I was nervous, but I had experience with live music since I was 8 years old. I learned how to manage my nervousness by playing. I also knew half of the performers & it was nice to see them do talents that aren't only music. Seeing the audience at first was disappointing, but later on it grew & I was happy to see that. I wish to see more advertisements & participation.”

Michael Lesko, a Sophomore who ran the lights in the show, said that it was really great. He enjoyed seeing everyone perform, & it was nice to see some standups. “Get more people, next year. We wanna see ALL the talent Wright has to offer.”

Michael Evans, another Sophomore attended to see the show. He did an Open Mic back in Fall ‘23. “It’s good to hold events, it encourages people to get involved & let others know. It’s a very good way to express yourself without pressure, & this was a good event. Show off your full potential, you’ll make someone’s day no matter how big or little the impact is. Either way, you’re making someone’s day for you & for someone,”

Lastly, Santana (alias). “I was excited & nervous, but I saw a lot of friendly faces. I’m glad I saw many people come & perform. Other performances did great. The talent show is a great way for Wright to not only to showcase their talents, but to realize that there’s talent in everyone. It’d be cool if there was more variety of talents & more participants. Shout-out to Katie Ordinario & Marisa Yee, Stage Wright Productions, & SGA for the food!”

This talent show made the students express themselves, to show off what they do best. It’s a great event for a gathering during & after the show, the credit goes to the organizers of the event & the sound studio emphasizing the sounds of each student’s stellar talents.
